Custom Jetty #19 - Whangpoo River Shanghai, China 1945 - 1946

The Ugly American
Shanghai, China .. 1945 - 1946 Number 19, Custom JettyAs I Remember All American Sailors stationed on ships anchored in the Whangpoo River will remember the Custom Jetty. When the Curfew clock tolled......The streets leading to the Custom Jetty would be covered by the white sailor hats converging on the Jetty and the Liberty boats lined up at the Jetty to take the mostly drunken sailors back to their ship. Not a pretty picture.....of drunken sailors and the SPs (Shore Patrol) trying to make sure the drunken sailor got on the correct liberty boat to his ship......
