Mr. Pete Malkowski and his wife, Betty, graced the decks of the '45' with their presense. Pete had been a Seaman First Class on the U.S.S. LSM-36, and had also enjoyed the status of being one of the cooks, and had specialized as Ship's Baker! A very popular man on the '36'

Lt. Heist is the former commanding officer of the U.S.S. LSM-474! Captain Heist spoke of his time in the Navy, and how he was originally the engineering officer on his ship, but was promoted to captain when the time came. He is a plankowner on the '474, and also was the captain when the ship was decommissioned

Mr. Alex Inglis, former Quartermaster 2nd Class on the U.S.S. LSM-179 and his wife Jenny were escorted that day by a young volunteer, Gunnery Sergeant Joe Houle USMC. If this Marine's name sounds familiar, it's because it's the same as our ship's Captain- Sergeant Major Joe Houle USMC (Retired)!

Are You A Stranger In A Box
STRANGERS IN A BOX

Come, look with me inside this drawer
In this box I' ve often seen,
At the pictures, black and white
faces proud, still, serene.

I wish I knew the people
These strangers in the box,
Their names and all their memories
are lost among my socks.

I wonder what their lives were like
How did they spend their days?
What about their special times?
I'll never know their ways.

If only someone had taken time
To tell who, what, where or when,
These faces of my heritage
would come to life again.

Could this become the fate
Of pictures we take today?
The faces and memories
Someday to be passed away?

Make time to save your stories
Seize the opportunity when it knocks,
Or someday you and yours could be
The strangers in the box.
