Maxine's Letter To Durward

Wewoka, Oklahoma
11/25/44

Dear Durward,

When I heard that you were in the Army instead of the Navy, I thought .. "I'll write him today and try to cheer him up."  Well, it's been several weeks since that and I'm just now getting around to writing you.  I don't know how time goes so quickly.  Of course, my work keeps me fairly busy, but not as much as last year.

I'm sure you have heard about our football season.  The one bright spot was the Seminole game, and it was a good one.  The banquet will be Friday night, Dec. 1st, I've heard.  If I get an invitation, I'll let you hear about it.

Clarence Allen and Warren Walker came to see me this afternoon.  They leave tomorrow afternoon for Little Creek, Virginia to take Amphibious training.  They still pop-off as much as ever.

Pinky Fraser sent me Christmas greetings from the Netherlands' East Indies.  I'd say he is a long way from home and in a pretty bad place, wouldn't you.

Jimmy Frazier is back in New York.  He left the east coast , but something happened to his boat and it was put in drydock in Maryland.   This has been a rainy week and I'm afraid next week will be more of the same.

Bill Smith is back with his old gang.  I think they were training on Guadalcanal. Jack Stephens wrote me about two weeks ago from Hawaii.  Or at least, I thought he was there.  I must write to him soon.

I guess you heard that K.J. is in the Marines and is in Boot Camp on Paris Island, S. Carolina (where Don Sarber is).  I can't imagine the Navy turning him down and then the Marines taking him, can you?

Write me about Army life if you have time between your many duties.

As Ever,
Maxine Walker

My Home Town

My Home Town
Paul Anka

I took a little trip to my home town
I only stopped to look around
And as I walked along the thorough-fare
There was music playing ev'rywhere
The music came from within my heart
How did it happen how did it start
I only know that I fell in love
I guess the answer lies up above

Oh what a feeling
My heart was reeling
The bells were ringing
The birds were singing

And so the music keep goes on and on
And through the night until the break of dawn
I hear a bird up in the tree
He sings a pretty little melody
ya-ya-ya-ya......

Oh what a feeling
My heart was reeling
The bells were ringing
The birds were singing

And so the music keep goes on and on
And through the night until the break of dawn
I hear a bird up in the tree
He sings a pretty little melody
ya-ya-ya-ya......
