Hi,

Check out this web page

www.chesterahoy.com/SHIP/np.htm

The LSM 380 is now the "Salvage Chief" it might be the last LSM still operating. Do you think that she still has the original engines?

Jim,

Larry and I had the pleasure of visiting the LSM 380 in Astoria, OR and had "tea" with the Capt and crew. An LSMer by the name of Wally Kowal served aboard he 380 and is an authority on the ship.

We are not aware of an e mail address but his tel # is 716-825-5168 in Buffalo, NY.

Also, if you have back issues of the AA- check out # 13 from April '93 page 6. It says..... "...Salvage Chief (LSM 380) is owned by diver, Fred Devine. He left the diesel power plant and auxiliaries in place, but added six LST anchor windlasses, built by Almon-Johnson, to the main tank carrying deck"

If you want me to send you a copy of the AA, say the word. Hope this helps.
