Hi Paul, (Paul Burket, Oklahoma SandScraper - LSM 341)
In regards to the question of water in the washroom,
as
recall?? there was only one faucet. I showed my wife a
picture that
was in the Alley that showed only one faucet. I
am
anxious to see which is correct. The LSM 341 was built in
Chicago,
the same as theLSM 322.
As an EM3/C one of the jobs I hated was
cleaning
the still that converted salt water to fresh.
At its
best production we could distill up to 2000 gal of fresh water
day.
Amy and I set up a reunion in Williamsburg,
Va in
1997. We had 12 men and their wives there. It was the first
that the
men had seen each other in 51 years. Most of us were
together
for 5 days and had a real good time.
I have belonged to the Association since
1992. We started going in 1994. Since we got on
the internet I have been able to talk to 5 officers, 24
crewmen. I also confirmed that there were 27 deceased
crewmen.
It is very hard to get old-timers to come to reunions. They are
scattered
out too far and do not want to travel.
After the Louisville Reunion we
went out to
Omaha and saw the ship. We visited with a friend and she recommended
going to
the Heritage Museum on 10th St. It was great. Would
recommend it
highly. It is a RR museum plus a history of Omaha.
Hope to see you in Omaha. Tony & Amy
