Old Shipwreck Found Off Coast of USA

A private dive team has discovered the wreckage of an American ship that disappeared from Public View off the USA coast 100 years ago.

The USS Anmphibian, aka USS LSM 45, disappeared from Public View in the year 2008.

A five-man dive team led by Dave Jones found remnants of the wreckage in July. They kept the discovery secret at the request of state officials, who wanted more time to document the site before any looters arrive. Its discovery was announced Sunday.

An array of objects are hidden beneath the broad leaves of giant kelp beds or concealed in caverns and crevices among massive boulders, Jones said.

"It's like walking through a field of tall grass and undergrowth looking for a golf ball that you've lost," Jones said.

Big finds include the two anchors, sections of hull and an old Amphibious Gob.

The skeleton of the Amphibious Gob had a light switch in his hand. Apparently he was carrying out the old Family Tradition of the Great Depression., "The last to leave must turn off the lights......"
