Commissioned 30 May 1944; Lingayen Gulf Landing 9 Jan 1945. Assault and Occupation Okinawa 1 April 1945. Grounded during typhoon 9 October, Buckner Bay, Okinawa.![]() Goodbye Joe - Til We Meet Again
He was 80 years old when he died March 9, 2001 One of the things that he was proudest of was his service to the country during World War 2 and especially his time on the 137. I will always thank you for your web site for the LSM’s, as it was the impetus for me to make a web site especially for the 137 and a tribute to my Dad and the other members of the ship. He was thrilled with the site, told everyone he knew about it, and was really proud when I had my daughter, his granddaughter, go to the archives in DC and get copies of the ships log. He was delighted to see the medals and ribbons he so richly deserved, placed on the web site and was like a kid when I found all the information on the typhoon Louise (which torn the bottom from the 137 and was decommissioned on the reef in Buckner Bay. He was also moved when you dedicated the 137 as picture of the week. I’m sure that his membership in the Alligator Alley was also a highlight of his. Would you, or could you let me know, how to contact the editor of the publication Please add his name to the list of men and women we all have to be thankful for, for saving the liberty and freedom for us all. I will remember him always as a friend and father and thank God for allowing him to be well and super alert up till the end. |
