EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR MEMORANDUM 21- 07
Subj: Various

1. Open House at NavSea Inactive Ships On-Site Maintenance Office, Philadelphia, PA 11-15 June 2007. The ships that will be available – ex-Puget Sound and ex-Trout will be open for an additional week 18-22 June 2007. Therefore the Open House is now scheduled for 11-15 June and 11-22 June. The ships will not be open during the weekend. Also: a. There will be no minors permitted in and/or around the ships during any open house events. This is a safety issue as the ships are on “cold iron” and are not safe areas for children. b. Those attending any open house should be in good physical condition, especially when submarines are open for stripping. Getting up and down ladders, especially in submarines, can be very taxing physically.

2. LSM 45. The Museum of the Marine (formerly known at the Marine Corps Museum of the Carolinas), recently announced the approval to build at the Lejeune Memorial Gardens and its plans to begin construction of the museum within the year. Due to the fact that the property has no water access, a decision was made by the Board of Directors to begin a search for a new home for the landing craft LSM 45. Originally, the plan was to build at a waterfront site, however, those plans did not materialize, and the museum had to look for an alternate site. Any organization interested in preserving LSM 45, should contact Jim Williams at execdir-mcmc@bizec.rr.com or call him at (910) 937-0033 or on his cell at (252) 635-8314.

3. Armed Forces Day – May 19, 2007. Volunteers playing horns of all types will render a cascade of Taps at 11:00 am local time on May 19, 2007 beginning at American Battle Monuments Commission sites in the Philippines, in North Africa, and then throughout Europe. A variety of programs will follow at National Cemeteries, Arlington National Cemetery, National Park Service Cemeteries and participating State Veterans Cemeteries across America, beginning on the East Coast and concluding in Honolulu, Hawaii.
