I sent the e-mail below to Dave the other day and thought you might be interested to know what is going on. We are moving forward and hope to
have her up to her temporary berth ASAP.

staff from the Museum of the Marine. Then we will look 45 over get some
pictures and sign for the ship. Tim will then let us know when his tug

and copies of the paper work.
John
Hi Ms. Judy,
I wanted to let you know my brother Jeff and I are headed down to Jacksonville on the 8th to get some pictures and sign for her. The tug owner will be there to look her over so he is comfortable towing her. She will be towed up to Norfolk. Then on to the great lakes as soon as possible. We will talk with the Museum of the Marine and set up a plan to pick up all the artifacts. I will keep everyone up to date.
Call or write with any questions, this is my work e-mail jnowakowski@rlcos.com
John
Good Morning Dave,
We have the berth in Norfolk, at no cost. The owner is also working on the tow up to his place. He is also working on ways of getting her to the great lakes with out a hugh tow bill. The museum of the Marine has started the paper work for the transfer of owner ship. We will be signing the ship over shortly. We are looking for funding to cover insurance and fuel for the tow. Everything is falling in place. Please let everyone know.

If you click the above you will get LSM 462.
www.american-divisions.com/ship.asp?shipid=63 Note the 63 on this address it represents LSM 462. Change this to number to find your ship. Example: "www.american-divisions.com/ship.asp?shipid=62" will give you "LSM 309".
Dear to Whom It May Concern,
After my father died and I got a copy of his separation papers I found out he served on the LSM 431. His name was Raymond Robert Sexton. He was in the navy during the period of 4 - 4 - 44 thru 1- 23- 46 I know on your website you were trying to find crew members just thought I would let you know. If you need any more information I will try to help but, my father was not very forthcoming with his naval service memories. He died 9 - 24 - 04. Thanks, Pamela Wolfe, 820 West Oak Street, Titusville,PA 16354
Subject: LSM-232 Project
Hi,
I'm the older son of John. F. Harper, Lt. USNR, who commanded LSM-232
from launch until returning to Pearl Harbor. I was about 4 years old
when he went to war, and we never really understood where he had been.
To learn about his ship's journeys, I acquired photographic copies of
the Deck Log. The project continues to expand with a written summary,
mapped tracks, and satellite photos of known anchoring locations. I'm
in contact with a few of the surviving crew and have received several
taped recollections from them. All of this will be available on a DVD
or CDs to the families and crew. I hope that it will be a treasure to
them, honoring the service of their loved one.
Sincerely,
Edward M. Harper, CTRC USNR (Ret.)

Gentlemen,
I wanted to let you know the Sandusky Register is suppose to be running a story about the museum plans on Sunday or Monday. We have also been getting good news about other developments in the area that will help us. Sandusky Ohio is putting in a new shipyard and they want the work on LSM 45 to come to them, so they are willing to help find funding also. This is going to be a good year.
Dave, let me know about the model. My wife has already told me she is up for a road trip if it is with in a couple state radius.
Happy New Year

give me on the moving of the LSM 45. I tried TheLastPatrol.org and .com and keep getting a Nisson car sales place. Lake Erie and Port Clinton Ohio was no help either. Just thought you would be interested. Paul

At the Board Meeting and the Business meeting at the Milwaukee Reunion in August 2007, it was discussed and agreed that beginning October 1, 2007 the annual dues will be $20.00 instead of $15.00. Lifetime membership has been changed from $150.00 to $200.00 regardless of your age.
If you have already paid $15.00 for your 2008 dues, you may consider them paid in full. However, for those members who will be paying their dues after seeing this notice, please pay $20.00.
Since our numbers are dwindling, our dues base is dwindling, also. We need you to pick up the slack.
This is the first increase in dues since 1992 and as we all know, the price of everything has gone up since then. We want to continue to bring you the best newsletter that we can and also run an efficient organization.
Regarding an efficient organization, please let me know your winter address if you are heading south. We will try to get your AA to you wherever you are. If possible, give me the dates of arrival and departure. Send me a note or an e mail to labetco@verizon.net Thanks for your cooperation.

According to the city
council meetings they are not going to open this year but will open next
year.
I will send more as it becomes available from the city.
Jim Williams rolled up his sleeves and went to work a month ago. Today, the new executive director of the planned Marine Corps Museum of the Carolinas may be near a solution to the proposal’s biggest question to date — where the museum will go.

We are now starting another new year for this great association and I anticipate
that we will face some trying times as we move along. The number one problem we are facing (which we have no control) is the declining membership thru deaths ,illness and just getting older. Along with this problem is our source of income is dwindling and the cost of doing business is rising at an alarming rate. The Board of Directors are in continuing discussion on how we can adjust to these problems.
With the rising costs of printing and mailing the Alligator Alley at this time we are only printing three issues this year and removing from the paper the return address correction as this cost us money to resend the paper. If you do not give us your change of. address you will not receive a paper.
We will also have to look at our reunions on a long term basis as the cost of the hotel room rates are rising along with the city taxes on the rooms. We are not getting the large turnout at the reunions as the cost of travel (Gas Prices) and due to this the cost of the bus tours is also rising. Another reason for the decline at the reunions is the health problems we are facing as we grow older.
We might have to look at having a reunion every other year, do away with the bus tours (tour the city on your own) We might have to come up with some type of fund raiser for the Association to keep it solvent.
Another problem we face is that some of the officer’s have mentioned that we should start looking for anyone that may want to step in to one of the offices and take over the day to day operation as we are getting older and have some health problems.
The military group known as “The Last Patrol” is moving forward in regards to the movement of the ship. The Mayor of Port Clinton, Ohio ( Where the ship is being moved too on Lake Erie) is working on the funding along with our organization. They have talked with the people in charge of the locks on the St. Laurence seaway and they have suggested that they do not tow her no sooner than the 1st of April 2008 due to the weather and ice. They have a Surveyor on standby and ready to go. They have already have talked with the insurance company and have a firm bid from the towing company. They have a meeting with the Mayor and his developer to go over the project. The mayor has given the go ahead to plan the entire museum in his development. The project has already been cleared by the voters and his city council. They are trying to move as fast as possible to get this done. p>
The Marines in North Carolina are working on getting the approval that is needed to transfer the ship to this group. You may contact this group by E-Mail at lastpatrol@aol.com and address you remarks to John T Nowakowski Commanding Officer

Jim I just emailed The Last Patrol and here is the answer I got right back from John T. Nowakowski at: LASTPATROL@aol.com
Hello Sir,
We will be glad to send photo and updates. We plan on letting everyone know what is going on as we progress. The time line for the move is looking like April of 08. We have to wait for the ice to clear.
The people in charge of the St. Lawrence Seaway told me not to plan any movement until 1 April. I hope to have the funding secured in the next month or so. Then we will go down and sign for the ship. I will keep your group informed of what is going on.

Written by Moe Jaffe
As recorded by Guy Lombardo and his Royal Canadians
April 20, 1945 in New York
Once there was a little girl who lived next to me
And she loved a sailor boy, he was only three
Now he's on a LSM/LSMR in his sailor suit
Just a great big sailor but she thinks he's very cute
(With his bell bottom trousers, coat of navy blue
She loves her sailor and he loves her too)
When her sailor boy's away on the ocean blue
Soldier boys all flirt with her but to him she's true
Though they smile and tip their caps and they wink their eyes
She just smiles and shakes her head, then she softly sighs
(Oh, bell bottom trousers, coat of navy blue
She loves her sailor and he loves her too)
When her sailor went to sea to see what he could see
She saw that he ate spinach, now he's big as he can be
When he's home they stroll along, they don't give a hoot
She won't let go of his hand, even to salute
If her sailor she can't find on the bounding main
She is hopeful he will soon come home safe again
So they can get married and raise a family
Dress up all their kiddies in sailor's dungarees
(Oh, bell bottom trousers, coat of navy blue
She loves her sailor and he loves her too)
